Tyus Jones isn’t the only top recruit in the state of Minnesota in the Class of 2014. Rashad Vaughn (Robbinsdale Cooper High/New Hope, Minn.) is currently ranked as the sixth best player according to Rivals.com. Before he can make a decision about where he will play college ball, the 6-foot-5 shooting guard must first decide on where he will finish his high school career.

Vaughn is debating about whether returning to Robbinson Cooper High for his senior year or spending his final year at one of the nation’s top prep schools. Three weeks ago, CBS Sports College Basketball Writer Jeff Borzello first wrote about the possibility of Vaughn heading to a prep power like Findlay Prep (Nev.), Oak Hill Academy (Va.) or several other destinations. In an interview with the Pioneer Press this past weekend at Session 4 of the Elite Youth Basketball League (EYBL) in Minneapolis, Vaughn remained uncertain about his future.

“That’s why it’s taking so long, because family is a big thing to me,” Vaughn told Marcus R. Fuller. “So I don’t know if I want to leave my family. But at the same time, it would be great for basketball. It would help me get better and more prepared for the next level.”

Despite Vaughn contemplating leaving Minnesota and Tubby Smith’s firing and Richard Pitino’s hiring as head coach of the Golden Gophers, the University of Minnesota is still in the running for one of the state’s prized recruits.

“I like how Pitino runs his team,” Vaughn said. “He said he runs the Louisville offense and Florida defense. That’s pretty much my style. That’s why I like him a lot.”

Minnesota is one of the many teams vying for Vaughn’s services. The list includes reigning champion Louisville, Kentucky, Florida, Georgetown, Kansas, Syracuse, Iowa State and even North Carolina is still in contention despite getting a commitment from 2014 wing Theo Pinson last Wednesday, according to Fuller.

Vaughn, who is currently playing with Playground Elite, told the Pioneer Press he will not reclassify and will remain in the Class of 2014 if he chooses to go prep.

Vaughn told Borzello on May 3 that he decision to prep or not would be made, “In a couple of weeks.” Three weeks later and Vaughn is still undecided about where his senior year will be played.
