Tyus Jones is set to take an official visit to Baylor in August

Tyus Jones

With Andrew Wiggins set to land in Lawrence this fall, all eyes are now of the Class of 2014, mainly point guard Tyus Jones (Apple Valley High/Apple Valley, Minn.) and center Jahlil Okafor (Whitney Young/Chicago, Ill.).

In a Q-and-A with Amelia Rayno of the Star Tribune, the five-star point guard confirmed that he will take his first official visit to Baylor at the end of August.

” ... that’s the only official I have planned,” Jones told Rayno.

“I’m going to try to just take the process slow, so we’ll see where it goes. I’m looking to take all five, more than likely.”

The 6-foot-1 Jones decided to trim his list to seven schools in early March, with Duke, Kentucky, Kansas, Michigan State, Minnesota, and Ohio State and Baylor all making the cut. For the time being it appears that this will be the list of candidates in the Tyus Jones sweepstakes.

“At this point I’m not going to be narrowing again,” Jones told the Star Tribune. “If I feel like I need to then I will but at this point, I probably won’t narrow it.”

Taking an official is not only big for Jones or the Bears. It is important for the 6-foot-11 Okafor. For months, Jones has made it clear he wants to attend college with Okafor, considered the top junior in the nation. Okafor confirmed that when he said there was a 99.9 percent chance he and Jones would commit to the same school. Duke, Kentucky, Kansas, Michigan State, Ohio State and Baylor have all offered Okafor already.

Jones went on to tell Rayno that he will likely take the remaining official visits during the fall.

Currently Jones is playing with the Howard Pulley Panthers, playing in the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League (EYBL). On the EYBL circuit, Jones is averaging 22.8 points and 6.9 assists per game.
