Could Nashville be the permanent site for the SEC tournament in the future?

MikeSlive

It looks like the SEC may be getting close to using Nashville as the long-term locale for their conference tournament.

Over the last five years, Tampa, New Orleans, Atlanta and Nashville have all hosted an SEC tournament. The 2014 event will take place at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta once again.

But the 2015, 2016 and 2019 SEC tournaments are all scheduled to be played in Nashville, and with the sites for the 2017 and 2018 events yet to be determined, this quote from SEC commissioner Mike Slive seems to indicate that Nashville could be where they end up.

“We’ve been very successful with our permanent site in football in Atlanta,” he told the AP. “We’ve been very successful in our permanent site in Hoover (Ala.) in terms of baseball, so the ADs felt it was time for us to explore the possibility of a primary site for the men’s basketball tournament.”

Those ADs voted unanimously to have Slive “explore a primary site for the men’s basketball tournament.”
