Kansas head coach Bill Self reprimanded by NCAA for hitting LED table

Kansas head coach Bill Self was publicly reprimanded and fined this week for his actions while the Jayhawks faced North Carolina in a third-round NCAA Tournament game in Kansas City this past season.

The offense: Self hit the LED scorer’s table during the game and damaged it according to a statement from the NCAA.

NCAA guidelines define misconduct as “any act of dishonesty, unsportsmanlike conduct, unprofessional behavior or breach of law, occurring from the time the championship field is announced through the end of the championship that discredits the event or intercollegiate athletics.”

“Coach Self’s actions were out of line with the committee’s expectations that championship participants act in a manner that represents the highest standards of sportsmanship,” said Ron Wellman, chair of the Division I Men’s Basketball Committee and athletic director at Wake Forest.
The NCAA has its priorities straight — once again — and is doing everything it can to protect the new advertising-filled LED scorer’s tables from the harmful fists of agitated coaches during NCAA Tournament play.
