Four-star forward L.J. Peak commits to Georgetown (VIDEO)

John Thompson III

On Tuesday, John Thompson III and the Georgetown Hoyas landed a commitment from four-star small forward L.J. Peak (Gaffney High/Gaffney, S.C.).

The 6-foot-5 Peak picked the Hoyas over offers from Florida State and his home state of South Carolina.

As seen in the video above Peak and Gaffney High star wide receiver Shaq Davidson made their college choices. Peak toyed with the crowd by putting a South Carolina hat on just as Davidson did, only to throw it to the ground and put on a Georgetown cap instead.

“Georgetown is a school that will help me get to the league. It’s a better fit for me,” Peak told reporters.

The Hoyas add another wing, who provides Thompson with a great athlete and scoring option when he reaches the nation’s capital in the fall of 2014. Peak joins point guard Tre Campbell (St. John’s College High/Washington, D.C.) and forward Isaac Copeland (Brewster Academy/Raleigh, N.C.) as current members of the Hoyas Class of 2014.

As a junior, Peak spent the year at Whitney Young Magnet High School in Chicago, playing alongside the top prospect in the Class of 2014 Jahlil Okafor. Peak decided to transfer back to his former high school, Gaffney, back in April, for his final high school season.

Peak had originally trimmed his list to five in late May with Ohio State and UConn on the short list with eventual finalists South Carolina, Georgetown and Florida State. Less than a month later, Peak announced he was down to the Seminoles, Hoyas and Gamecocks.

Rivals ranks Peak No. 82 overall in the Class of 2014.

This summer Peak has been running with the CP3 All-Stars, averaging 11.8 points and 4.3 rebounds per game in the EYBL circuit. His CP3 All-Star teammates include North Carolina-bound wing Theo Pinson and future Wake Forest point guard Shelton Mitchell.
