UConn redshirt Rodney Purvis to miss time after torn labrum

Dec 16, 2013, 5:35 PM EDT

Rodney Purvis was a McDonald’s All-American that stayed in-state to play at North Carolina State, but the 6-foot-4 Raleigh, NC native opted to transfer after his freshman season to UConn.

Purvis must sit out this season, per NCAA transfer rules, but he’ll have three seasons of eligibility left beginning with his redshirt sophomore season next year.

But the guard has received a setback as it has been reported by Ed Daigneault of the Republican-American that Purvis has a torn labrum and will be out four-to-five months.

Obviously, this means nothing to the Huskies in the short-term since Purvis is sitting out this season, but it is unfortunate to lose the practice and development time he would get during his season off.

Purvis played 25 minutes a game as a freshman at North Carolina State and averaged 8.3 points and 2.4 rebounds per game while shooting 44 percent overall and 38 percent from three-point range.
