WATCH: Southern Illinois coach Barry Hinson unloads in press conference

Dec 18, 2013, 2:09 AM EDT

Southern Illinois head coach Barry Hinson delivered the press conference of the year after Tuesday night’s 73-65 loss to Murray State. Hinson, the second-year coach who is 16-25 with the Salukis, has his team off to a 2-8 start this season and is less than pleased about the state of his team. Fast forward to the 3:00 mark of the video. It kicks off with this:

“I’ve been telling my wife this for years: size doesn’t matter.”

A little more than a minute later, he unleashes this gem:

“There was a sniper in the gym. Did you see that? We had guys falling down.”

“I would have thought Navy Seal Team 6 was out there.”

MORE: Hinson apologizes for rant

At this point, I’m just ruining this for you. Listen here:

We laugh, but Southern Illinois senior Davante Drinkard didn’t find it too funny:

UPDATE: Hinson was on the Yahoo! SportsDash on Wednesday, where he apologized for calling out guard Marcus Fillyaw.

Don’t worry coach, SIU is not big time.

      Neither is he.

Wow, this guy is a douchebag.

Has publicly complaining your players aren’t letting you coach them ever resulted in them being coachable?

Another out of control, immature adult in a leadership position… How stupid..!! The school must be so proud of this butt wipe…

And then, of course, he says he’s soooo sorry for what he said…

Coach complains that players sulk and cry too much.
Player immediately goes to twitter to cry about it.

Would you rather have your players look you in the eye and threaten to knock your head off? I hear it’s kinda hard to coach without your head on your shoulders.
And if they cannot score, shot fakes ain’t gonna help…

Leaders who air their laundry in public never become great leaders. Hinson may have the potential to be the greatest coach ever, but he lost a ton of credibility with this rant. Not once does he indicate anywhere that HE actually might be a part of the problem. If I hear him correctly, he has coached perfectly and he thinks his team sucks.Hmmm…

However, he is pretty funny. Perhaps stand up comedy is better suited to him

On a scale of 1 to Bobby Knight, I give this a 6.
