Michael Sam appears at halftime of Missouri-Tennessee (VIDEO)

Feb 15, 2014, 7:11 PM EDT

source:

Michael Sam made an appearance at halftime of the Missouri-Tennessee game on Saturday as the Tigers celebrated their football team’s Cotton Bowl victory.

Sam has dominated headlines over the past week as he announced on Sunday that he is gay. Sam is the reigning Defensive Player of the Year in the SEC and a mid-round NFL Draft prospect.

The Missouri student section showed him quite a bit of love:

That wasn’t the most inspirational part of the day.

You see, Missouri students caught wind of the fact that the Westboro Baptist Church would be picketing Michael Sam on Saturday, so they formed a half-mile human barrier on Stadium Blvd. to keep the protesters from reaching Sam and to try to drown out their hate-speak by singing Missouri’s fight song.

Good for them. And you might want to look a little closer at those Twits, you let a naughty slide by.

Not sure what you are refering to as “a naughty” that got by the editors. I did not see anything and I looked at the pictures closely.

It says F Westboro Baptist Church which I agree with but it doesn’t say F.

Why feh celebration of someone saying they’re gay? It’s not something to be proud of.

    • t8temd - Feb 16, 2014 at 1:13 AM

Because he’s going to be the first gay NFL player ever. He should be very proud of that. And many others are very proud of it. If you’re indicating that he shouldn’t be proud because he’s gay, well, you’re just wrong. And judging from the thumbs up and down, many other agree with me.

why put this kid on a pedestal for him to crash down to earth. evil elements(nfl and the players union) are against you.

    • matth5 - Feb 16, 2014 at 10:29 PM

That may be true, but this also may be a chance for the NFL to change their image. Maybe this is their chance to get rid of the idea of homophobia that surrounds them. We Mizzou students aren’t putting Michael Sam on a pedestal because he’s gay, we’re commending him for having the courage enough to come out. And we think the NFL should do the same. Here’s a link to an article that talks more about how we (the youth and young adults) believe the NFL should handle this situation: http://yayaconnection.com/2014/3-pieces-of-advice-the-nfl-should-take/?utm_source=Mary%20Trier&utm_medium=NBC%20Sports&utm_campaign=YAYA%20Spring%202014

Being gay is so glamorous. Wish I was gay. Coolest thing in the world.

  6. jmatleb - Feb 16, 2014 at 10:17 AM

He’s not going to be happy in the NFL. There is no way any team is going to let him re-decorate the locker room.

Should we prise what is wrong because society changed and accepted trends that’s has been condemned forever, will the next trend be worshipping the devil and false gods, what is this world coming to, in my opinion and the Bible god didn’t make any mistakes and just because hundreds of years later and this generations of single mother television rises society thinks other wise doesn’t means it right this and and although I believe everyone has the right to be who they want let’s not prise that fact that someone is gay, next it will be murderers being accepted because they are born that way give me a break This cannot be true to anyone who believes in god and that’s why I believe the world is close to an end and this and all of the recent natural disasters that’s happening proves it. Once the world get to a point where we forget about God we are in trouble history repeats itself and this current society is in trouble and I have nothing against gay people just don’t think it should be glorified

I think you’re a kook who is dying out like the dinosaurs. I think if you have an issue with the way your supposed god made them then take it up with him. I think if your god didn’t want gay folks, as the all powerful guy you think he is, then there wouldn’t be gay folks. And I think your bigotry can’t hide behind the shield of a 3,000 year old book that’s been proven false time and again. And I think this isn’t the forum to be espousing your religious nonsense. Leave it at church, richard.

I bet you eat shellfish. GFY. (Good for you, lol)

Well that guy is obviously going to be burning in hell one day

      • lakesidegator - Feb 17, 2014 at 12:30 PM

Under your (really *hitty) logic, if God didn’t want evil, or sin, there would be none of either.
That ignores the notion of freewill which, IMO, both you and Sams (as well as all those other “freaks”) have misused. MGHMOYS.

  8. baller2189 - Feb 16, 2014 at 2:15 PM

God says in the Bible that it is wrong to be gay. Being gay is a choice people u rnt born gay and there is one God and everyone should obey his commands not their own commands

  9. musketmaniac - Feb 16, 2014 at 5:01 PM

god doesn’t say anything credible in the bible. remember it’s a book that rewritten and interpreted in twenty different languages before the crap that’s called king james.

    • eugenesaxe1 - Feb 16, 2014 at 11:47 PM

It’s funny-yet-sad how few people realize and understand that. Back in the day, if whoever was in charge didn’t like what was said, they had it re-written or pulled out completely. Add that to translation problems, and nobody has a clue what the original said.
