Washington got some encouraging news after a disappointing 17-15 2013-14 season on Monday as freshman point guard Nigel Williams-Goss opted to return for his sophomore season, according to CSN Northwest’s Chris Haynes.

The 6-foot-3 Williams-Goss was a McDonald’s All-American in 2013 and averaged 13.4 points, 4.4 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game while starting every game for the Huskies during his freshman season. Williams-Goss also knocked down 36 percent of his three balls on the season and upped that mark to 44 percent over the final 14 games of the season. While Williams-Goss had interest from NBA people, the guard will be a Huskie next year.

“I’m very excited to be coming back,” Williams-Goss said to CSNNW.com. “I believe in the development of our current team along with the new recruits we got coming in, that we have a great chance to compete for the title in the Pac-12.

“The lure of playing in the NBA was an attractive situation that I had to look into. The information I got back was positive and informative, which made my decision even tougher. But ultimately my family and me felt like forgoing that path for now, and returning to school, was best for my career in this moment in time.”

This is significant news for Lorenzo Romar’s ballclub as Williams-Goss should be one of the best guards in the Pac-12 next season. The freshman already set a Washington single-season record for assists in a season and possesses a tremendous amount of skill with a high basketball IQ.
