Northwestern mascot says sad goodbye as Welsh-Ryan gets facelift (VIDEO)

Jul 2, 2014, 5:00 PM EDT

Northwestern is giving Welsh-Ryan Arena a makeover this summer, and one of the major renovations is to get rid of the 1970s-style scoreboard hanging over the center of the court and to replace it with a dual-sided, HD video board.

There will also be video boards paced at the end of the court as well, as you can see in the artist-renderings below.

But before the changes are made, Northwestern’s mascot, Willie the Wildcat, had to say an emotional goodbye.

Wait, so we won’t be playing in a high school gym going forward? Good to know.

    1. Notice how the video board in the 1st picture shows exactly what’s going to be happening 24 seconds later (the 2nd picture). That’s the kind of video board I want.

    2. 72-68 for Northwestern/Nebraska, with 10:51 on the clock? Only if they’re expanding college basketball games to 3 halves.
