Four-star 2015 guard down to six and will make a late decision

As the No. 39 overall player in the 2015 class, Louisiana native Brandon Sampson is drawing a lot of interest.

The 6-foot-4 guard is smooth with the ball in his hands and very talented on the wing as a slasher and according to a report from Ben Love of Tiger Sports Digest, Sampson is down to six schools and will likely make a decision after the fall signing period.

Sampson has had his final six since the middle of August and it includes Cal, LSU, Oklahoma State, St. John’s, Texas A&M and UCLA.

But even though Sampson has a final list, he is taking his time with his official visits and his timeframe on making a college decision.

From Love:

“I might take one or two visits (this fall), but I want to take visits during basketball season,” Sampson stressed. “I’d really like to catch some of these schools during basketball. I’m looking forward to seeing how the program works, the style of play and all that.”

As his visit timeline indicates, Sampson is “definitely going to sign late,” opting to wait for the regular period in April, not November’s early signing period.

This is a smart decision from Sampson. Why rush a college decision when you’re a coveted four-star prospect? With Sampson’s list spanning both coasts, he’ll need time to see multiple campuses and taking his time to see things like style of play is a good thought. A lot of things could change between now and next season in terms of transfers and coaching changes.

Can LSU keep Sampson home? That’s what they’re hoping, but they’ll have stiff competition in this race.
