Wichita State accomplished something it couldn’t last season, but it involes the Shockers’ fan base and not the team on the floor.

According to a release from the school, for the first time since the 2006-07 season, and only the second time in program history, Wichita State has sold out its season tickets for the season. It helped that 99 percent of existing season tickets holders renewed after last season -- and who wouldn’t? Wichita State had an undefeated regular season -- but the remaining 74 seats were claimed by those on the waiting list.

Charles Koch Arena, which seats 10,502 people, will still have tickets available to students for the season. Shocker fans have had at least 10,000 fans at every home game since 2004, a streak of 152 games.

“Our fans don’t just fill our stadium, they bring it to life with their passion and energy,” Wichita State Director of Athletics Eric Sexton said in the release. “I wish to express my gratitude to Shocker Nation for their overwhelming support of our programs.”

With one of the best and most passionate fan bases in college basketball, it’s a little surprising that Wichita State hasn’t sold out its season ticket packages more often but this could be another special year for the program as they have arguably the best back court in the country with Fred Van Vleet and Ron Baker returning.
