After averaging just over 14 points per game during his junior season St. Anthony HS in Jersey City, New Jersey, 6-foot-7 small forward Markis McDuffie put together a solid summer on the grassroots circuit with the Sports U program. Due to his play McDuffie received offers from programs such as Maryland, Seton Hall, Boston College, Wichita State and VCU.

Sunday evening McDuffie announced via Twitter that he’s cut his list to four schools: Boston College, SMU, VCU and Wichita State.

McDuffie has taken one official visit thus far, as he was on the VCU campus this past weekend. The New Jersey native has another official visit on the horizon, as he’s scheduled to make the trip out to Wichita State next weekend. McDuffie has also been on the Boston College campus, as he visited the ACC school unofficially September 12.

For Boston College, the addition of McDuffie would satisfy a need as they current have three seniors at the small forward position (grad transfer Aaron Brown, Patrick Heckmann and Eddie Odio). SMU is in a similar position, as the Mustangs have multiple wings who are entering their final season of eligibility.

VCU has two underclassman small forwards who will have eligibility remaining after this season in sophomore Jordan Burgess and freshman Terry Larrier, but they lose senior Treveon Graham. Add in their “HAVOC” system and the resulting need to have multiple options on the perimeter, and the need for another wing becomes rather apparent. Wichita State will also have to account for the loss of two key seniors, with Tekele Cotton and Darius Carter both entering their final year of eligibility.

McDuffie’s narrowed his list of suitors, and it certainly looks as if any of the four finalists would provide him with the opportunity to compete for minutes early in his career.
