With Rod Hall entering his senior season and Jordan Roper and San Francisco transfer Avry Holmes both being juniors, the Clemson Tigers needed to land a point guard prospect in the Class of 2015. Saturday night head coach Brad Brownell received a verbal commitment from one of the top remaining point guard in the class, as 6-foot-1 Ty Hudson made his pledge while on an official visit to the ACC school.

The news was reported by Evan Daniels of Scout.com, with multiple outlets having the same news shortly thereafter.

Hudson, a native of Mableton, Georgia, averaged 17.9 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game as a junior at Pebblebrook HS. Pebblebrook finished the season with a 24-6 record. Hudson played for the Southern Stampede program this summer, averaging 17.3 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.3 assists per contest in Nike EYBL competition.

Hudson’s quickness and defensive ability are two areas scouts have pointed to as strengths, and given how well the Tigers have defended under Brownell his addition will help there. Most importantly the Tigers, who enter the 2014-15 season without an underclassman at the point guard position, have a player who can run the show when the upperclassmen move on.

Among the other programs to offer Hudson a scholarship were Houston, Kansas State, Ole Miss and UAB. An interesting note about the UAB offer: new Clemson assistant Richie Riley was on the staff when that offer was made according to Jeff Goodman of ESPN.com.
