Temple lands their second top 150 recruit in the 2015 class

Temple picked up a commitment from Levan Alston on Tuesday morning, as the Philly-native announced that he will be following his father’s footsteps and playing for the Owls.

Alston is the No. 104 player in the Class of 2015, according to Rivals. He picked the Owls over Penn State and VCU, while Marquette and Notre Dame, among others, were heavily in the mix as well.

“I wanted to be close to home, so people could come see me play,” Alston said at the press conference. “I’m from North Philly, so it doesn’t get any better than that.”

Alston’s father, Levan Alston Sr., played his high school and college ball with Aaron McKie, who was recently hired as a member of Fran Dunphy’s staff. A 6-foot-4 combo-guard, Alston joins top 150 wing Trey Lowe -- a teammate in the Team Final AAU program -- in Temple’s 2015 class.

The Owls have been down the last couple of seasons, but starting off a recruiting class with a pair of talented local kids is a good way to brighten their future in the American. And, quite frankly, when Temple is good, it’s a good thing for the league as a whole, as it not only provides a presence in a city that loves hoops as much as Philly does, but it provides the conference with a fourth storied basketball program (UConn, Memphis, Cincinnati).
