Big Ten writers release media poll, Wisconsin sits atop the league

new-big-ten-logo1

The Big Ten beat writers unveiled their preseason poll on Wednesday, and it should come as no surprise who the No. 1 team in the conference is.

Wisconsin.

It was unanimous.

Where things get interesting, however, are when you start trying to figure out who will finish in second place behind the Badgers.

The media members covering the conference picked Ohio State. Me? I don’t have Ohio State ranked in my top 25. Nebraska, either, who was picked to finish fourth in the league. Michigan, who was picked to finish fifth in the conference, and Iowa, who was picked seventh, both were in our top 25.

I say that to say this: the Big Ten is going to be a crapshoot, which means that it’s going to be a lot of fun to watch the season play out. Wisconsin may be the only team that looks like a Final Four contender right now, but the league will be plenty exciting.

Anyway, here is the entire poll:

  • 1. Wisconsin
  • 2. Ohio State
  • 3. Michigan State
  • 4. Nebraska
  • 5. Michigan
  • 6. Minnesota
  • 7. Iowa
  • 8. Illinois
  • 9. Indiana
  • 10. Maryland
  • 11. Purdue
  • 12. Penn State
  • 13. Northwestern
  • 14. Rutgers
