After enduring some lean years the Auburn fan base has been rejuvenated by the hiring of Bruce Pearl, with the former Tennessee head coach enjoying a great amount of success on the recruiting trail before he’s even coached a game on The Plains. Thursday the Auburn basketball program announced plans for its early season event, which has been aptly named “The Pearl Jam.”

The event will be held October 30, and it will be for students only. It’ll be a chance for the players, led by seniors K.T. Harrell and Antoine Mason, to have some fun in front of their classmates while involving a portion of the fan base that Pearl and his players will need during games at Auburn Arena.

“If we are going to create an incredible environment to watch college basketball, we have to do it together,” Pearl said. “Auburn students, we can’t do this without you. The energy and enthusiasm I feel on campus for this university and our athletics programs is unmatched anywhere I’ve been. I want this student section to be the most exciting and hostile environment in all of college basketball. Our coaches, staff and team can’t wait to see you in Auburn Arena on Oct. 30.”

This is the second celebration of sorts held at the school this offseason, with a few supporters showing up at the arena to celebrate the end of Pearl’s show-cause penalty back in late August. Not sure if this has been considered by the folks at Auburn, but if they could get the actual Pearl Jam to show up that would be fun.
