Indian Hills CC big man to announce college choice Monday

Indian Hills Community College

Indiana Hills (Iowa) CC power forward Malik Dime is one prospect whose been on the receiving end of more attention from Division I programs in recent months, with multiple high-major programs looking to add him to their roster for the 2015-16 campaign. Friday it was reported by both Travis Hines of the Ames Tribune and Brad Winton of JucoRecruiting.com that Dime will announce his college choice on Monday.

According to Winton the four schools still in contention for Dime’s pledge are Arkansas, Iowa State, Rutgers and Washington.

As a freshman at Indian Hills the 6-foot-9 Dime accounted for 7.7 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.9 blocks per contest. Those numbers may be considered modest, but there’s also the need to take into consideration the fact that he played just under eleven minutes per game. Dime scored in double figures in 11 games, and he blocked at least five shots in eight contests.

From a depth standpoint, Washington may be the team most in need of a commitment from a big man. The Huskies have struggled with interior depth in recent years, and with Shawn Kemp Jr. being a senior another big man wouldn’t hurt them at all. Lorenzo Romar has already landed four verbal commitments in the Class of 2015, with one of those players being four-star power forward Marquese Criss.

Arkansas has some young talent in its current front court, including sophomores Bobby Portis and Moses Kingsley and freshman Trey Thompson, but they can use another front court piece for depth reasons. Iowa State and Rutgers are in similar positions when it comes to their front court depth in 2015. The Cyclones (who added freshman Giorgios Tsalmpouris) will lose Dustin Hogue, Jameel McKay and Daniel Edozie at the end of this season, with Rutgers needing to account for the eventual loss of Kadeem Jack.

Rutgers has three freshman big men on the roster, with D.J. Foreman and Shaq Doorson available to play and Ibrahima Diallo sitting as a partial qualifier.
