While not being able to add Emmanuel Mudiay wasn’t ideal for the SMU Mustangs, this doesn’t mean that Larry Brown will be operating with an empty cupboard on the perimeter in 2014-15. Nic Moore is back for his junior season after being of the most productive transfers in the country a season ago, and sophomores Sterling Brown and Keith Frazier return as well.

The good news regarding all three is that they’ll have eligibility remaining past this season, and with Virginia Tech transfer Ben Emelogu and commits Sedrick Barefield and Shake Milton joining the ranks next season, perimeter depth won’t be a problem for SMU moving forward. As a result of this SMU’s latest commitment has decided to reclassify into the Class of 2016.

LaGerald Vick, a three-star 6-foot-5 shooting guard from Memphis, made his decision to join the SMU program Wednesday afternoon with news of his move into the 2016 class being revealed as well. In a story written by Adam Grosbard of TheHillTopics.com, Rivals recruiting analyst Eric Bossi said the following about Vick’s skill set:

“As it stood, Vick is a kid who was going to be making a major play for the class of 2015 Rivals150 but now that he is in 2016 he will enter at No. 134,” Bossi said. “Chances are that initial ranking is a conservative one. Vick is a good shooter with bouncy athleticism and lots of length. He is quick to the rim, has a nose for scoring and should benefit from being able to bulk up during (an extra) year of prep school.”

Vick becomes SMU’s first 2016 commitment as a result of his move, with Barefield, Milton and small forward Jarrey Foster being the program’s three 2015 verbal commitments. In addition to SMU, Vick took official visits to Western Kentucky and Georgia Tech.
