Georgia Tech lands commitment from 6-foot-9 three-star center

Sylvester Ogbonda

Georgia Tech landed its first commit in the Class of 2015 from National Christian Academy (Maryland) center Sylvester Ogbonda, who announced his decision on Twitter. The 6-foot-10 center was on campus for an official weekend.

“I am blessed to say I have committed to G Tech, just wanna thank God. McCamish Arena here we come,” he tweeted.

During the summer, he told Josh Verlin of CityofBasketballLove.com that he held offers from Boston College, Cincinnati and La Salle with interest from other schools in the ACC, Atlantic 10, Big 12 and SEC. He participated in the Reebok Breakout Challenge during the July live evaluation period which gave him the opportunity of going up against heralded big men such as five-star centers Skal Labissiere and Diamond Stone as well UConn commit Steve Enoch.

“I need to be comfortable playing with the team,” he said when asked about the recruiting process. “I need to get better, a team that can get me better. A family environment and academics, because I’m a high-major academics person, so that’s about it.”

Ogbonda has upside, from what recruiting gurus have said, and will need to add depth on the frontline when he arrives on campus to go along with Charles Mitchell, Quinton Stephens, Ben Lammers and Abdoulaye Gueye.

Ogbonda is listed as a three-star recruit by Rivals.
