We knew Oregon State would likely struggle this season under new head coach Wayne Tinkle, but the Beavers likely didn’t envision losing at home by 10 to a Division II team like they did on Friday night.

Western Oregon University started the game on a 7-0 run and ended up winning 57-47 despite the Wolves shooting 29 percent from the field and 29 percent from the three-point line. At one point, Oregon State trailed by 17 points in the second half.

Tinkle’s squad struggled, going 12-for-26 from the charity stripe (46 percent) and turning the ball over 21 times. Gary Payton II had 10 points, 10 rebounds and six assists to lead the Beavers’ efforts, but he also committed five turnovers and had minimal help. Malcolm Duvivier also added 10 points for Oregon State.

The Beavers were expected to struggle until next season with a strong incoming 2015 recruiting class, but the cupboard appears to be incredibly bare in Corvallis this season and Oregon State might struggle to win a Pac-12 game during the regular season if they play like this.
