Florida State will be without two key guards Friday night

The 2014-15 season hasn’t begun in the way Florida State would have hoped, as the Seminoles are off to a 2-3 start with a game against Charleston Southern scheduled for Friday night. One issue of late has been injuries, with guards Devon Bookert and Aaron Thomas both dealing with issues that have sidelined them for the time being.

Thomas played sparingly in the team’s loss to UMass on Sunday before being taken to the hospital for what was deemed (at the time) to be a case of dehydration. As for Bookert, he didn’t play in that game after it was determined that a screw in the foot he broke in May needed to be removed. According to a report from CBSSports.com on Friday both players are sidelined indefinitely, with the program awaiting the result of tests Thomas underwent upon the team’s return to Tallahassee.

Without Thomas, who emerged as one of the top scorers in the ACC over the last month of the 2013-14 season, and Bookert the Seminoles will move forward without their best scorer and best perimeter shooter (that would be Bookert). Montay Brandon, who’s averaging 13.2 points per game, and freshman Xavier Rathan-Mayes (13.3 ppg), will be asked to do even more as a result of these personnel losses.

Also likely to see a boost in playing time are sophomore Dayshawn Watkins and freshman Robbie Berwick, with the latter suffering a broken nose last weekend. Following their game against Charleston Southern the Seminoles will host Nebraska and UCF, with their ACC opener at Notre Dame scheduled for December 13.
