Illinois State has lost leading scorer DeVaughn Akoon-Purcell for at least a month after he broke his right hand, a source told NBCSports.com’s Scott Phillips.

A 6-foot-5 junior guard, Akoon-Purcell is averaging 14.1 points this season.

The injury came during Illinois State’s win at DePaul on Sunday. Daishon Knight scored 25 points and MiKyle McIntosh had 14.

The Redbirds are 5-3 on the season, but it looks like Akoon-Purcell will miss their visit to Wichita State in league play.

The news was first reported by CBSSports.com.
