Tennessee head coach Donnie Tyndall rewards walk-on with a scholarship (VIDEO)

To say that Tennessee first-year head coach Donnie Tyndall hasn’t been operating with a full cupboard would be an understatement, as the Volunteers entered SEC play with just nine scholarship players. However due in large part to their competitiveness Tennessee has a 9-5 record, and they’re 1-1 in conference games.

Even with Tennessee’s depth issues redshirt junior guard Galen Campbell hasn’t seen the floor much, playing in just one game this season and 14 throughout his time as a member of the program. But the former walk-on has impressed his coaches and teammates with his work ethic, which Tyndall rewarded with a scholarship on Friday.

Tennessee Athletics captured the moment on video, with Tyndall giving Campbell the good news in front of his teammates prior to their film session in preparation for Saturday’s game against Alabama. Campbell, who called his mother shortly thereafter, described the moment as “a dream come true.”
