There are few rules that I hate more than giving players a quick technical foul if they don’t immediately let go of the rim on a dunk.

This is why:

That’s Utah State guard JoJo McGlaston soaring through three Air Force defenders for monster dunk ... and then getting his foot caught on a player’s head and falling flat on his back.

The good news is that he wasn’t injured seriously, but it eventually someone is going to get seriously hurt trying to get off of the rim before costing their team two free throws.

You want to give a kid a technical foul for doing a chin-up on the rim and slapping the back board? I still don’t like it, but I understand it. Blatant taunting is going to get you rung up in just about any sport.

But too many referees don’t understand just how hard it is to control your momentum when you’re that high in the air.
