Illinois has been without star senior guard Rayvonte Rice and junior guard Aaron Cosby the last few games as both have battled injury. While there were rumors that Rice and Cosby might play on Saturday against Penn State, that will not be the case. But it isn’t because of their previous injuries.

Cosby and Rice have been suspended indefinitely, according to head coach John Groce. The decision was announced about an hour before the Illini and Nittany Lions were set to tip.

“Rayvonte and Aaron have been suspended indefinitely for a violation of team rules,” Groce said in a statement. “Hopefully they will make better choices and make the necessary progress to rejoin our lineup.”

The suspension is for a violation of team rules and no further explanation was given. Rice broke a bone in his left hand and has missed six games in a row for Illinois while Cosby has missed two games with a retinal tear in his left eye.
