Justin Anderson will undergo surgery on Sunday for a broken finger on his left hand, the school announced on Saturday night.

Anderson broke a bone in a finger on his left hand. He’ll be out for 4-to-6 weeks, according to the school, and the difference is incredibly important. The ACC tournament starts in just over four weeks. Selection Sunday is exactly five weeks after Anderson’s surgery. If Anderson is out for all six weeks, he’ll return to the Virginia lineup in the Sweet 16.

Anderson sat out the second half of No. 3 Virginia’s win over No. 9 Louisville on Saturday afternoon with a wrap on his left hand, his shooting hand. Losing the 6-foot-6 junior would be a massive blow for the Cavaliers, as Anderson has put together an All-American caliber season in 2014-2015. He’s a terrific perimeter defender and entered Saturday night shooting 50.0 percent from three.

One concern here: Anderson turned himself into a lethal three-point shooter this season, but if he misses an extended amount of time -- especially after a surgery on his shooting hand -- it will be interesting to see how well he’s able to shoot when he returns.
