GAME OF THE NIGHT: Cleveland State 66, Green Bay 61

Cleveland State completed the regular season sweep of Green Bay.

A wild sequence sent the game to overtime, and in the extra frame Charlie Lee and Trey Lewis scored the first five points to give the Vikings a two-possession lead. The duo connected on a backdoor pass, which iced the win, as Lewis’ layup put Cleveland State up five with 30 seconds left in overtime.

In the last 90 seconds, Lee banked in a 30-footer to put Cleveland State up 55-52. A Keifer Sykes’ layup and a Carrington Love free throw knotted the score at 55-all with 32 seconds to go. Green Bay would force a stop and had the ball roughly 75 feet away from the basket with 0.5 seconds left. Green Bay threw the ball out of bounds, giving Cleveland State an ideal spot for a buzzer-beater bucket, although, the Vikings were unable to get a shot off.

Valparaiso is clinging to a narrow half-game lead over Cleveland State in the Horizon League standings. Cleveland State hosts Valpo in the regular season finale on Feb. 27, looking to avenge last month’s loss.

STARRED

David Laury, Iona: The top big man in the MAAC scored 21 points and grabbed career-high 18 rebounds in Iona’s win over Marist. It was his 13th double-double of the season.

Maodo Lo, Columbia: The junior guard scored a career-high 33 points, off 14-of-19 from the field, with five boards, five assists and three steals for good measure.

Ray Sanders, Albany: The Great Danes bounced back from its first conference loss with a win over Hartford. Sanders led all scorers with 19 points, doing most of his damage from the line (11-12).

STRUGGLED

Penn: Earlier in the day, Jerome Allen announced that leading scorer Tony Hicks would not play in Penn’s weekend road trip to New England. On Friday night against Harvard, the Quakers lost by 23 points. They are now riding a four-game losing streak and could fall to the bottom of the Ivy League standings if they lose to Dartmouth on Saturday.

Marist: The Red Foxes jumped out to a double-digit lead, but needed a last-minute three from T.J. Curry to head into the locker room with a one-point lead. Iona would take control of the game in the second half and while Marist would make a late run, the Gaels would take another step closer to clinching the MAAC regular season title with a 72-68 win. After getting healthy and winning four straight, the Red Foxes have now dropped four in a row.
