GAME OF THE NIGHT: Marist 69, St. Peter’s 67

The Red Foxes led by 18 after the first half, but found themselves tied with St. Peter’s on Senior Night with nine seconds remaining. St. Peter’s Desi Washington split a pair a free throws, missing what would have been the go ahead point. Khallid Hart raced down the floor for the last-second layup to put Marist up 69-67. St. Peter’s had one last attempt, though Marvin Dominique’s three from the top of the key did not fall.

IMPORTANT OUTCOMES

Valparaiso 56, Cleveland State 53

The Crusaders had a seven-game win streak snapped on Wednesday at Detroit. Valpo bounced back with a 56-53 road victory over Cleveland State, winning the Horizon League regular season title, earning that all-important home court for next week’s conference tournament.

STARRED

Iona: Always a good night when you can sweep your archrival. The Gaels topped Manhattan 79-75 on Friday night led by A.J. English with 26 points. Iona also welcomed back Isaiah Williams, scoring 12 points, grabbing seven rebounds and blocking two shots in his first game since Jan. 13.

Shonn Miller, Cornell: The senior forward reminded the Ivy League that he’s up there with the top players in the conference with 24 points and 15 rebounds in an upset win over Harvard. Thirteen days earlier, he struggled against the Crimson with a 1-for-10 performance.

Khallid Hart, Marist: Mike Maker already has a key piece moving forward in sophomore guard Khallid Hart, the reigning MAAC Rookie of the Year, who has scored in double figures in 11 of 14 games since returning from injury. He’s also been clutch, too with late threes against Niagara and on Friday night a last-second layup to knock off St. Peter’s.

STRUGGLED

Harvard: An inconsistent offense has been a season-long issue for the Crimson. On Friday, Harvard shot 25 percent from the field. The starters were a combined 13-of-48 with Wesley Saunders leading the way with 19. To make matters worse, Yale rolled past Princeton in the second half, which forces a tie atop the Ivy League standings. Before we can circle March 6 in Cambridge on our calendars, Yale hosts Penn while Harvard travels to Columbia.
