With their three best perimeter players in junior Tyrone Wallace and sophomores Jabari Bird and Jordan Mathews having eligibility remaining beyond this season, and Georgetown transfer Stephen Domingo becoming eligible next season, California won’t lack for options in that area in 2015-16. Sunday afternoon head coach Cuonzo Martin and his staff added another player to the ranks, as three-star 2015 small forward Davon Dillard announced that he’s committed to the Pac-12 program.

Dillard, who currently attends Our Savior New American in Centereach, New York, is the first commitment in the Class of 2015 for Cal. On a visit to Cal this weekend, Dillard announced the news via his Twitter account.

“I’m officially a Cal Bear,” Dillard tweeted.

In early February Dillard cut his list to five schools, with Creighton, Indiana, Pittsburgh and Purdue joining the Golden Bears as the schools still in contention for his services. In Dillard, Cal adds a very athletic wing who can finish above the rim. He’s the second small forward to commit to the program during Martin’s brief tenure as head coach, with four-star 2016 prospect Oscar Frayer being the first.

The hope in Berkeley is that Dillard will have some company in the 2015 class, as five-star big men Ivan Rabb and Caleb Swanigan were also on visits this weekend. And with David Kravish graduating, landing a big man in the class is a boost Cal can definitely use.
