Rasheed Sulaimon was twice alleged to have committed sexual assault by female students during the 2013-2014 academic year, according to a report from the Duke Chronicle, the university’s student newspaper.

The report says that officials in the athletic department were aware of the accusations as early as March of 2014. Among those named: head coach Mike Krzyzewski and his coaching staff, athletic director Kevin White and Sue Wasiolek, the dean of students.

On Monday morning, Krzyzewski refused to comment on questions regarding the allegations multiple times during the ACC’s teleconference.

“I don’t have any comment on that,” Krzyzewski said. “Thanks for asking though.”

Neither of the alleged victims filed a complaint through Duke’s Office of Student Conduct or with the Durham Police, the Chronicle writes, because of the “fear of backlash” from the Duke fan base. All of this happened around the same time that sexual assault accusations against former Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston became public.

The reason given by Duke for Sulaimon’s dismissal was a track record pockmarked with the inability to adhere to the standards of being a Duke basketball player. As Krzyzewski put it in a release announcing Sulaimon’s dismissal on January 29th of this year, Sulaimon “repeatedly struggled to meet the necessary obligations” to remain on the team.

Sulaimon is still a student at Duke.
