After making 14 starts as a junior, Marquette forward Steve Taylor Jr. has decided to leave the program. Marquette announced the news Wednesday afternoon via press release.

“We want to thank Steve for his contributions to the program, not only this season, but his entire career,” Marquette head coach Steve Wojciechowski said in the release. “We also wish him the best of luck as he explores other opportunities to continue both his academic and athletic careers.”

Taylor played just over 22 minutes per game for the Golden Eagles this season, averaging 5.9 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. In three seasons at the school Taylor averaged 3.9 points and 3.3 rebounds per contest, making a total of 17 starts.

Taylor is the third member of the front court whose departure Wojciechowski and his staff will have to account for in the offseason. Juan Anderson has exhausted his eligibility, and Deonte Burton transferred to Iowa State in December.

The Golden Eagles will add one of the nation’s top recruiting classes next season, led by five-star forward Henry Ellenson, but they’re going to be young in the front court with Ellenson and Matt Heldt joining holdover Luke Fischer. As a result of Taylor’s departure Marquette now has three available scholarships, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if the program were to add another body (or multiple bodies) in the coming months.
