Maryland suffered a disappointing loss on Sunday night, falling to No. 5 West Virginia in the Round of 32 after Melo Trimble had to leave the game with an apparent head injury.

Afterwards, head coach Mark Turgeon spoke with the media about the roller coaster ride that has been his first four seasons in College Park.

“Obviously it’s been an unbelievable year and I just wanted to thank them,” Turgeon said with tears in his eyes, “for giving me a great ride this year.”

“A year ago today, I wasn’t in a very good place. Today I’m in a great place because of that group in there. I knew in June that they were going to be a good group and they were fun to coach and I just hate that I couldn’t help them more tonight and get them to the Sweet 16.”

Turgeon was on the hot seat entering the year, but he put together one of the most impressive seasons of any team in the country.
