Rutgers suffered another loss on Friday afternoon.
The school announced that sophomore forward Junior Etou had been granted his release and will transfer.
“Junior is a quality young man and we appreciate his contributions to our program,” Rutgers head coach Eddie Jordan said in a statement. “We wish him the best moving forward.”
The 6-foot-7 Congo native averaged 7.4 points and a team-leading 6.6 rebounds per game. The Scarlet Knights are set to graduate Myles Mack and Kareem Jack, the team’s top two scorers from this past season. The loss of Etou makes it more unlikely Rutgers will climb out of its last-place finish in the Big Ten.
Etou will have two years of eligibility remaining.
