Northern Kentucky made a move and hired former Alabama assistant John Brannen as its new head coach, according to multiple reports. Brannen was an assistant coach under former Crimson Tide head coach Anthony Grant for six seasons and became the team’s interim coach during the Postseason NIT.

Brannen led Alabama to the second round in the event after a home win over Illinois in the first round.

Also a former assistant at VCU, St. Bonaventure, Eastern Kentucky and Charleston, Brannen worked mainly with perimeter players during his stint at Alabama.

Brannen is a native of Covington, Ky and ended his college playing career in 1997 after starting at Morehead State and transferring to Marshall.
