One month after announcing his decision to de-commit from Alabama, four-star 6-foot-5 guard Dazon Ingram has decided that Tuscaloosa is indeed where he’ll play his college basketball.
During a ceremony Friday afternoon, Alabama’s Mr. Basketball announced that he will play for new Alabama head coach Avery Johnson. Ingram’s decision to reopen his recruitment came on the heels of the school’s move to part ways with then-head coach Anthony Grant.
One question that Ingram asked Alabama athletic director Bill Battle at the time of his de-commitment was whether Antoine Pettway, who was an assistant on Grant’s staff, would be retained. Pettway, who played at Alabama during the early-2000’s, was retained by Johnson and it had to help the program’s chances that they had a coach who was familiar with Ingram and vice versa.
Ingram averaged 21 points, 11 rebounds and five assists per game as a senior at Theodore HS, and given the amount of production Alabama lost on the perimeter, Ingram’s commitment is an important one for the Crimson Tide. Alabama’s top three scorers in 2014-15 were all guards who have moved on, with Levi Randolph and Rodney Cooper out of eligibility and Ricky Tarrant transferring.
Ingram, who can play both on and off the ball, joins forwards Brandon Austin and Dontá Hall as signees in Alabama’s 2015 recruiting class. Both Austin and Hall remained on board after the head coaching change.
