Maryland guard will return for one more season

Maryland is returning a hero from the 2015 NCAA tournament, as reserve guard Varun Ram will return for his final season.

The 5-foot-9 guard is a former walk-on who made a key play in a Round of 64 win over Valparaiso, as Ram stripped Crusaders guard Keith Carter on the game’s final play to seal a Terrapin victory.

Ram announced his return on Twitter.

Although he only played 57 minutes during the 2014-15 season, Turgeon clearly trusts Ram as a defensive player and threw him on the floor in one of the most important possessions of the season. Ram should continue to be a valuable practice player and he provides an additional experienced guard for the Terps in case of emergency.

Ram started his career at Division III Trinity University in Connecticut but transferred to Maryland as a walk-on for the 2012-13 season. After sitting out that season due to NCAA transfer rules, Ram has played the last two seasons in limited minutes for the Terps.
