While many programs are looking to put the finishing touches on their 2015 recruiting hauls, Virginia’s is well on its way in the Class of 2016. Having already secured three commitments in the class, Tony Bennett and his staff landed a fourth Thursday night in the form of power forward Jay Huff.

News of Huff’s commitment was first reported by ESPN.com and Scout.com.

The 6-foot-10 Huff, who attends Voyager Academy in Durham, North Carolina, was on the receiving end of interest from a number of high major programs including Duke. But according to multiple outlets it was Virginia who was first to offer Huff a scholarship, with the skilled big man committing a week after receiving the offer.

Huff joins guards Ty Jerome and Kyle Guy and forward Sacha Killeya-Jones in Virginia’s 2016 recruiting class. Huff’s father discussed the reason for his son’s commitment with Rob Harrington of Scout.com:

“We’re really excited about Jay’s decision,” Huff’s father, Mike Huff — who’s also Voyager’s coach — told Scout. “They were the first big school that came after him, but more than that, it was the way they went about it. He’s developed a really strong relationship with Coach Bennett and Coach (Ron) Sanchez.

“There’s a lot of schools out there, but he knew in his heart that if they offered there was a very good chance he would go there.”

Huff is slender in build, with Rivals.com listing him as weighing just 180 pounds, so that’s an area where progress will need to be made in advance of his arrival in Charlottesville. But he and Killeya-Jones will join a front court that will have experienced options in 2016.

Isaiah Wilkins will be a junior when the 2016-17 season begins, with Jarred Reuter and Jack Salt (redshirted in 2014-15) being sophomores.
