The Kansas basketball team will be representing the United States at the World University Games, which is will be held from July 3-14 in Gwangju, Korea.

The problem? The Jayhawks only have three perimeter players that currently allowed to play during the event: Frank Mason, Devonte’ Graham and Wayne Selden. Wings Brannen Greene (hip surgery) and Svi Mykhailiuk (Ukranian) are unavailable. Freshman LeGerald Vick, who recently committed to the program, is expected to be able to play, but that’s not official yet.

And even with Vick, Kansas would have just four perimeter players available.

So they added one more piece: SMU point guard Nic Moore, the reigning AAC Player of the Year.

“With our relationship with [Tim Jankovich] and Coach [Larry] Brown,” head coach Bill Self said, “they said if we needed anybody, they have a kid that would love to go, that kid being Nic. We’re taking the 2015 American Athletic Conference Player of the Year. They do a lot of the same things we do so it will be an easy blend for our guys. “

Jankovich was an assistant under Self from 2003-07. Brown was the Kansas head coach from 1983-88, and Self worked as a grad assistant under Brown for two seasons.

“Coach Brown and Coach Jankovich told me I would have the opportunity go with Kansas to represent the USA and go overseas and play,” Moore said. “I’ve never been overseas to experience that, but the opportunity to be able to play with a great program and to represent the USA, that’s a big accomplishment and feels great.”

Self also said in the release that he will consider adding another player if Vick is not allowed to go on the trip.
