Former head coach Bill Foster died at 79 on Wednesday in Charlotte, North Carolina, after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

Foster was 532 games in his 30 seasons as a head coach at the collegiate level. He spent time with five different programs -- Clemson, Miami, Charlotte, Virginia Tech and The Citadel -- advancing as far as the Elite 8 in the 1980 NCAA tournament with Clemson.

That Elite 8 is is Clemson’s only trip that deep in the tournament.

Foster developed the reputation for building programs during his career. He was the first head coach at Charlotte after the program made the move to the Division I level, and he was hired at Miami when the Hurricanes restarted their basketball program in the 80’s.

Foster retired in 1996-97.
