On the tail end of his visit to Kansas, former Ole Miss center Dwight Coleby has decided to transfer to the Big 12 school. News of Coleby’s transfer was first reported by ESPN.com, with the 6-foot-9 big man confirming it via social media shortly thereafter.

“I am excited to be a part of something special here at Kansas... #RockChalkJayhawk,” Coleby said via his Twitter account.

Coleby made just three starts as a sophomore at Ole Miss, averaging 5.4 points and 4.8 rebounds in 16.5 minutes of action per contest. Playing time was a reason for his decision to leave Ole Miss, and he joins a program that tends to used multiple big men in its rotation. However Kansas will have three seniors in its front court rotation in 2015-16, led by Perry Ellis, with freshmen Carlton Bragg and Cheick Diallo joining that group.

The question for Kansas moving forward is whether or not they continue to pursue former Providence center Paschal Chukwu. The 7-foot-2 Chukwu, who played sparingly in his lone season at Providence, was expected to visit the Big 12 school during the first weekend of June. And even with Coleby committing, head coach Bill Self still has a scholarship available for the 2015-16 season.

Coleby won’t be able to play next season but the work against this deep group should help him moving forward. Coleby will have two years of eligibility remaining after he sits out the 2015-16 campaign.
