The Butler-theme in the Boston Celtics’ front office continued to grow this week as former Bulldog point guard Alex Barlow has been hired as a video assistant.

Barlow walked on at Butler four years specifically so that he could learn the craft of coaching from Brad Stevens and eventually became Butler’s starting point guard and an academic all-american. Stevens left midway through Barlow’s college career, but it didn’t take long for the duo to reconnect after graduation.

Barlow started on Monday.

“Two years ago, when (Stevens) left to work for the Celtics, I didn’t know what was going to happen,” Barlow told the Indianapolis Star. “I don’t know that I could have told you that I’d work for the Celtics out of college. Two years later that opportunity has presented itself, and it’s everything I could have asked for.”

Barlow is not the first former Bulldog to end up on Stevens’ staff. Stevens brought a then-23 year old data analyst named Drew Cannon with him from Indianapolis to Boston, and former point guard Ronald Nored worked on Stevens’ staff for a season before returning to the college ranks.
