The details of Avery Johnson’s six-year contract with Alabama were released this week.

The former NBA head coach will make more than $2.8 million annually to take over for Anthony Grant, with his current contract running through 2021. Before bonuses, Johnson is slated to make roughly $16.8 million from the Crimson Tide.

There are some bonuses in the contract, however, as he could make up to $460,000 based on incentives, including $50,000 for winning an SEC regular season or tournament title, $50,000 for reaching an NCAA tournament in either of his first two seasons, $100,000 if he reaches a Final Four and another $50,000 for any win in the Final Four.

What’s most important when discussing contracts these days is the buyout, and for Johnson, his buyout is $3.5 million if he leaves after one season and $2.75 million if he leaves after two years. From there, it’s $2 million if he leaves after the 2018-19 season, dropping $500,000 each year afterwards.
