After a very strong and efficient spring with the Albany City Rocks, four-star Class of 2016 point guard Howard Washington committed to Butler on Tuesday. The 6-foot-2 Washington plays his high school basketball at Montverde Academy but is a native of Buffalo, New York.

Regarded as the No. 83 overall player in the Class of 2016, Washington is one of the best pure passers and set-up guards in the class. This spring with the City Rocks in the Nike EYBL, Washington averaged 10.1 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game. Washington also shot the ball well, going 46 percent from the field, 40 percent from 3-point range and 72 percent from the free-throw line.

Washington should be a lead guard who fits in at the Big East level and he makes other players around him better using a team-oriented approach. He joins Indiana native and center Joey Brunk in the Bulldogs’ 2016 recruiting class.

With a mother who is Canadian, Washington has also spent time on the Canadian National Team, playing on the FIBA World Championships U17 team in Dubai last summer.
