Incoming Villanova point guard Jalen Brunson has been one of the top performers at the FIBA U19 World Championships in Heralikon, Crete, Greece.
Entering Friday’s quarterfinals against Italy, Brunson was averaging 9.3 points and had recorded 23 assists to just four turnovers. His 24th assist came on the first U.S. possession. Terrance Ferguson, a five-star 2016 prospect, took a back screen from Louisville forward Chinanu Onuaku, opening a lane to the basket, as Brunson hit him with a perfect alley-oop for the two-handed dunk.
Brunson scored a tournament-high 17 points in an 86-65 quarterfinal win over Italy. The USA U19 team will face host Greece in the semifinals on Saturday. The Greek national team includes incoming Oregon guard Tyler Dorsey, who scored a team-high 14 points in a quarterfinal win over Spain.
