Ohio State began its Class of 2017 with an in-state commitment from 6-foot-9 center Kaleb Wesson, who announced his decision on Friday night.

“I am so blessed and thankful to say that I am committing to The Ohio State University,” he tweeted.

The son of former Ohio State big man, Keith Wesson, becomes the first player in Thad Matta’s Class of 2017. after picking up a scholarship offer from the Buckeyes back in June. Wesson is also a highly-regarded offensive lineman, rated as a three-star prospect by Rivals, but according to reports, he had already shifted his focus to the hardwood prior to the Ohio State offer.

The Westerville South High (Ohio) was named to the USA Basketball Junior National Team back in May.
