LAS VEGAS -- Class of 2016 shooting guard Zach Norvell had arguably the best performance of the July live evaluation period on Saturday night with an astonishing 53 points and 14 3-pointers in a Mac Irvin Fire win over Castle Knights at the Las Vegas Classic.

Norvell’s blistering scoring output at Rancho High School had the crowd in a frenzy by the second half, as he buried 11 of his 3-pointers in the first half to get off to a hot start. In the second half, the Chicago native continued to hit deep shots and also got to the rim a little bit despite playing this week on a nagging ankle injury. When Norvell exited the game with a little over a minute left to play, some in the crowd gave the lefty a standing ovation for his efforts.

“Just a bounce-back win,” Norvell told NBCSports.com after the game. “Last game I didn’t shoot it as well as I wanted to. So I wanted to come back and redeem myself. My coaches, they had confidence in me, they believed in me and they told me to keep shooting. When you’re hot like that, it’s hard not to put it up to see if you can make the next one.”

A former high school teammate of Jabari Parker’s at Chicago Public League powerhouse Simeon, (Parker was a senior when Norvell was a freshman) Norvell is currently regarded as the No. 92 overall prospect in the Class of 2016 national rankings, according to Rivals. Rancho High School has been a kind shooting backdrop to Norvell before in his career. The only other 50-point game of the guard’s career came at the school in an AAU game against Team Bibby when he was in seventh grade.

Norvell told NBCSports.com this week that Illinois, Florida State, Purdue, Wake Forest, Bradley and Loyola were some of the schools primarily involved in his recruitment. Norvell mentioned that he would like to set up official visits to Illinois, Florida State and Wake Forest sometime after the July live evaluation period.
