With Jarrod Uthoff and Adam Woodbury both entering their final season of eligibility, Iowa has a need for front court additions in their 2016 recruiting class. Having already landed one forward in Cordell Pemsl, head coach Fran McCaffery picked up another Thursday afternoon in the form of 6-foot-9 Ryan Kriener.

Kriener announced the news via Twitter, and his addition leaves Iowa with two scholarships available in the 2016 class. With point guards Mike Gesell and Anthony Clemons being being seniors, it’s safe to assume that the Hawkeyes will look to add at least one perimeter piece in the 2016 class.

Like Pemsl, Kriener (Spirit Lake, Iowa) is an in-state product and his ability to score in the post is something that can help the Hawkeyes upon his arrival on campus. Kriener averaged nearly 20 points per game as a junior at Spirit Lake HS, and he also held offers from programs such as Missouri, Wichita State and Minnesota according to the Des Moines Register.

Among the front court players who will have eligibility remaining when Kriener arrives on campus next year are junior college transfer Dale Jones, sophomore Dominique Uhl and freshman Ahmad Wagner.
