Akron announced in a press release on Thursday that head coach Keith Dambrot will be replacing Belmont head coach Rick Byrd as the Chairman of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Rules Committee.

“It’s an honor to be selected by my fellow committee members to serve in this role,” Dambrot said. “I am excited to continue working with a great group of people that are dedicated to making the game of basketball better.”

Dambrot had spent the past three seasons as one of 13 members of the committee, which is made up of administrators and coaches. They meet once a year and vote to implement new rules every two years. This season, the rules committee made changes on how fouls will be called -- we’re going back to the 2013-14 rules -- and reducing the shot clock to 30 seconds.

As the chairman, maybe Dambrot can now get the men’s game to go to four ten minutes quarters instead of being the only level of the sport that plays two halves.

Just a thought, Keith. Get started on it.
