Baylor opens the season on Nov. 13 against Stephen F. Austin and is expected to have its All-American-caliber forward available to play.

On Friday, Gary Parrish of CBS Sports caught up with Baylor head coach Scott Drew as part of Parrish’s weekly Inside College Basketball column. Drew told CBS Sports that Gathers’ offseason run-in with the law has been handled and Gathers isn’t expected to miss any games this season.

On June 9, the senior forward turned himself into police, arrested and charged with theft of under $500 after he was seen on tape shoplifting from a Walmart in Waco earlier that month. In July, Gathers entered the McLennan County District Attorney’s Office pretrial diversion program, according to the Tommy Witherspoon of the Waco Tribune. A completion of the 12-month program -- 50 hours of community service and a class on theft -- and the Class B misdemeanor conviction will not appear on his record.

The 6-foot-8 forward averaged 11.6 points and 11.6 rebounds per game for the Bears last season, earning a first-team all-Big 12 selection.
